Crypto hacks are a dime a dozen nowadays. This time, hackers have drained more than 9000 Solana wallets. While the exact details of the issue are still unknown, preliminary investigations by Solana engineers and cybersecurity experts have found that the “affected addresses were at one point created, imported, or used in Slope mobile wallet applications.”
In an official statement discussing the breach of its wallet, Slope explained,” We have some hypotheses as to the nature of the breach, but nothing is yet firm,” and recommended users create a new wallet with a unique seed phrase and transfer their funds to the new wallet.
Ottersec, the security research agency working with Solana on the matter, revealed that over US$4 million have been stolen from the affected wallets in the past two days.
Per the ongoing investigations, the hack was only limited to software wallets. Users of hardware wallets weren’t affected. Solana is therefore recommending users transfer their assets to a hardware wallet with a new seed phrase.
