HP is proud to have teamed up with Beats Audio to make this Pavilion dm4 Beats Edition laptop. The HP Pavilion dm4 Beats Edition laptop gives a good level of performance for the money, as well as a nice design and finish, and a decent battery life. However, the audio quality and screen aren't quite good enough to make this a five-star notebook.

The dm4t Beats Edition is an example of a laptop with performance that outpaces the quality of its chassis. $1169 is an entirely reasonable price for a laptop with this level of performance, but for that price, consumers expect a certain level of design and build quality. The dm4t Beats Edition can’t deliver, so we can’t recommend it. HP’s own lineup makes this laptop appear a bit irrelevant – the HP Envy 15 and HP Folio 13 are in this price bracket and unlike the dm4t, they have a design that can match their performance.

The HP dm4 Beats Edition didn't score the highest ratings in our lab tests, and it in some ways it certainly leaves you wanting. But for under £1,000 this laptop will do most anything you need it to do (gaming aside) with respectable efficiency - all while keeping your beats bumping.

Nice styling, above-average audio reproduction, a decent configuration and good user comfort make the Pavilion dm4-3000 beats Edition is a worthy choice for everyday use. It's a well-rounded 2kg machine that's not overly expensive and we enjoyed using it. However, it could use a less glossy screen and some improvements to some of its components (such as the DVD burner).

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.
