HMD Barbie flip phone unveiled: mirror display, interchangeable battery and Snake are on board
The latest flip phone from HMD Global is clearly aimed at Barbie fans, as its case is almost completely pink, right down to the keypad, which is decorated with several Barbie logos. The back of the display not only features Barbie lettering, an LED flash, and a 0.3MP camera, but also a mirror.
HMD Global has integrated a 1.77-inch secondary display into this mirror, which can show the current time, date, and incoming calls. The main display measures 2.8 inches diagonally. The user interface has been completely redesigned so that all icons are pink and Barbie-styled. The cell phone deliberately does without social networks, web browsers, or other distracting apps so that the device does not draw away users from the real world while they still remain reachable.
A small special feature of the software is that the game Snake is included, albeit in a version with a Malibu theme. The 1,490 mAh battery is said to provide a talk time of 9 hours and is charged via USB-C. The battery can be easily replaced if necessary and is also pink. The HMD Barbie has a Unisoc T107 ARM chip, 64 MB RAM, 128 MB flash memory, a microSD card reader for up to 32 GB of additional memory, an FM radio, an MP3 player app, and a dual SIM slot.
Prices and availability
The HMD Barbie flip phone is now available from the HMD Global online store for 129.99 euros (approx US$145). The phone is supplied in packaging that is modeled on a jewelry box. It comes with stickers and two additional back covers for personalization, as well as a lanyard with plastic beads.
