Google Search can now find a doctor that accepts your insurance, saving on out-of-network deductibles
Google just announced a few changes in its state-of-the-art Search algorithm that can help the user navigate the expanses and expenses of the U.S. healthcare industry. We've lost count of the horror stories depicting how a sick American in an emergency goes to an out-of-network doctor who doesn't take their particular insurance, resulting in exorbitant charges that often lead to bankruptcy. Google is now aiming to help you find an in-network doctor that will take your insurance, including Medicare practices, with the tool one very often turns to when they are in a medical emergency - Google Search.
When searching for a doctor or a specific healthcare provider nearby with Google, users will now be able to see what kind of insurance they accept before they decide to head over there or set up an appointment. In addition, people over 65 who are on a Medicare plan can filter by Medicare providers in the area right on their phones. To ensure that this vital information is always up to date, Google says they are "conducting checks to ensure details of local doctors are up to date, and giving all healthcare providers the ability to update their information by claiming and updating their Google Business Profile."
Those same healthcare practices' Business Profiles on Google can now also display additional languages like Spanish or American Sign Language that they are using to communicate with patients better. "After claiming their profile, health professionals can edit and update information about their hours, services, and more," says Google, with the extra info that will appear in Search now, including what kind of insurance practices take and the variety of languages spoken in the doctor's office.
