Google Docs now uses AI to create formatted documents
Google has announced a new feature for Docs that lets it create formatted documents using the Gemini AI model.
Announced via the company's support pages (via Gadgets360), you can ask Docs to make new proposals, project trackers, document ideas, blog posts, press releases, campaign briefs, dinner party menus, newsletters, itineraries, and more.
Users can click "help me create" and write a short prompt describing the document. You must attach at least one existing document for Gemini to work from by typing "@filename."
The feature is only available in Google Workspace Alpha and the early testing program, Google Workspace Labs. Google said it is rolling out the feature gradually, and it is currently limited to desktop users and only works in a new document.
There are some limitations. Google says it cannot "incorporate web search results or content from your Workspace files," or "generate cover or inline images of people." It is also limited to "content extraction" from files and cannot copy the "structure or style" of those files.
