The Indian smartphone maker announced the M7 Power model at the Thailand Mobile Expo 2017, just two days after the official release of the M7. The "Power" denominator seems to be related to the hefty battery that comes with this model, rather than improved performance.
Spec-wise, the M7 Power looks like a mid-range multimedia smartphone. The included 5,000 mAh battery is a nice addition, but the overall performance was reduced, as the M7 Power integrates a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 octa-core SoC clocked at 1.4 GHz, which is not as powerful as the Mediatek Helio P30 that comes with the M7. The Qualcomm SoC is coupled with 4 GB RAM and the M7 Power also features 64 GB of internal storage that can be extended by up to 256 GB through a microSD slot. The smartphone is dual SIM, with one SIM slot being hybrid.
Multimedia fans will appreciate the 18:9 6-inch display with 1440 x 720 resolution. There are no buttons or logos on the front, and the small bezel only hides an 8 MP selfie camera. The main rear camera comes with a 13 MP sensor that supports HDR imaging. The smartphone runs Android 7.1.1 out of the box.
Gionee will be offering the M7 Power in dark blue, black and gold color options. The model is expected to be available soon with an MSRP of around US$300.
