Futuremark releases 3DMark software for Android

3 months ago Futuremark unveiled the latest version of their popular benchmarking software, bringing with it Direct X 9, 10 and 11 support. The company also promised that 3DMark would be coming to multiple platforms, and they have begun the roll-out with their new Android application.

Available through the Google Play store, the 280MB app uses the "Ice Storm" demo to test the CPU and GPU capabilities of Android devices. Running at up to 1080p, the minimum specifications include Android 3.1 and at least 1GB of RAM, but the benchmark is taxing on even the most capable of processors. 

The same "Ice Storm" benchmark has yet to find its way into the Windows 3DMark, but it should be available soon; allowing more accurate cross-platform comparisons. In addition, an iOS and Windows RT versions of 3DMark are expected in the future, but no release date has been announced.
