Roguelike games like Hades or Enter the Gungeon have been popular with fans for years. The idea is simple – get as far as possible, then start over after each defeat. It's a genre made for players who enjoy fun, fast-paced sessions without having to invest too much time. In one of the latest entries, the hero isn't a demigod or legendary warrior – it's a teddy bear.
In Teddy Knight, you play as a teddy bear knight called to fight the evil witch Baba Yaga and her army of toy minions. Instead of a classic fantasy setting, the action takes place in a dark toy box. Between building blocks and broken toys, the cuddly hero battles through ever-shifting levels that are newly assembled with each run. Combat is shown from a top-down view and relies heavily on physics-based mechanics. Enemies aren't just defeated with a sword – they can also be thrown or knocked off ledges. As usual in the roguelike genre, you collect upgrades during each run that can significantly change your playstyle.
Teddy Knight seems to be well received by players so far. Of the 13 Steam reviews available at the time of writing, 92% are positive. Players highlight the fun gameplay, solid controller support and charming design that gives the genre a fresh feel. The game also benefits from low system requirements and a small file size of just 2 GB. Technically, however, it's not quite polished yet. Compatibility with the Steam Deck (currently listed at $480 on Amazon) is still unknown.
