First benchmarks for AMD A8-7410 Carrizo-L APU now online
After almost three months since the official unveiling of the AMD "Carrizo-L" family of APUs, notebooks sporting the new processors are now for sale and in the wild. As the successor to the Beema platform, AMD continues to rely on a 28 nm fabrication process for the budget quad-core Carrizo-L. Nonetheless, improvements in its design have allowed for higher clock rates and wider pin compatibility for mainstream and high-end devices. This alone should make the Carrizo platform much more attractive to OEMs.
While the hardware improvements sound great in theory, we're still interested in seeing how much of a performance and efficiency gain the new AMD generation can bring. Thus, with the Toshiba Satellite C55D-C-10P on hand, we provide a preview on select benchmarks below run on an A8-7410 APU.

According to our benchmarks, the new A8-7410 outperforms its immediate predecessors by just a few percentage points, including the A8-6410 and A6-6310. The Intel Bay Trail SoC used for our comparison falls in last place and is expected to show an even larger gap in graphics performance once we verify additional benchmark runs. Still, the current crop of Core i3 CPUs have a healthy lead over our Carrizo-L sample. Will AMD have the advantage in battery life and power consumption? We'll find out soon enough in another update for this ongoing review.
