Fast 50 mm full-frame lens with autofocus launches for $89

50 mm f/1.8 lenses have been part of many photographers’ gear for decades, not least because these lenses often combine high image quality with a compact design and an affordable price. TTArtisan aims to take it a step further, especially when it comes to price, as the manufacturer’s latest 50 mm f/1.8 full-frame lens costs just $89.
Weighing a maximum of 167 grams, the lens is still designed to deliver decent image quality thanks to its construction consisting of twelve elements in eight groups. The MTF curves show that the lens produces relatively sharp images even at wide-open aperture, except in the corners. Unusually, the lens has neither an aperture ring nor a focus ring, so it is not possible to manually focus the TTArtisan 50 mm f/1.8. This means photographers must rely on the STM autofocus motor.
TTArtisan uses the absence of moving parts as an opportunity to allow photographers to customize the lens’s design with 3D-printed attachments; the corresponding templates can be downloaded for free. TTArtisan not only includes a small lens hood and a front cap, but also a rear cap featuring a USB-C port that can be used to install firmware updates.
