Fairphone 2 to finally get Android Marshmallow
The world's first modular phone has been around for a while, and this month it will finally get Android Marshmallow. On the other hand, the Fairphone team is also working on a new software update for the first Fairphone handset, although it will be based on the now outdated Android 4.4.4 KitKat and the company cannot give a launch date for it yet.
According to Fairphone, the new software promises to offer "better security, longer battery life, and improved functionality, to name just a few of the advantages." The highlights of this update include improved app permissions, increased battery life, improved multitasking, more flexible storage, a standard user interface that drops Fairphone-exclusive features like Privacy Impact and Edge Swipe Menu.
The launch day is not known yet, but Fairphone reveals that the update is scheduled to arrive "in the coming weeks," with the regular version being followed by the Open Source one "in the near future."
