A New Challenger. The Canadian manufacturer, Eurocom, is the first to combine a speedy Intel Sandy Bridge processor with a powerful AMD Radeon HD 6970M, housed within the 15.6" P150HM barebone. The big question in the air is, of course, whether this duo can measure up to Nvidia's flagship graphics card, the Geforce GTX 485M?

Perennial speed-laptop maker Eurocom must have taken that advice to heart, because the company set—and met—some very high expectations with its Racer, a 15.6-inch gaming machine. It's plain-looking, and the battery life is poor, but the Racer lives up to its name. It's one of the fastest 15-inch notebooks to ever hit our labs—and a very good value.

Radeon Powerhouse. In this review update, the Clevo P150EM barebones takes the form of a Eurocom Racer 2.0 complete with one of the fastest quad-Core Ivy Bridge processors and the top-of-the-line AMD Pitcairn GPU. Is this Radeon core a wiser option than the equivalent Nvidia offering?

Several conclusions. First, if you need a laptop that will last long time on one battery charge – that laptop ain’t for you. Although I’m pretty sure that the battery issue has something to do with drivers / Windows / bios, currently this is the situation, and Eurocom reply to me didn’t unveil any future plans to handle it (although they might be working on a fix).

For $3,348, the Eurocom Racer 2.0 is one tricked-out gaming notebook/desktop replacement that delivers solid performance and graphics with a matte display. However, its short battery life and somewhat plain chassis give us pause. To keep things in perspective, the Alienware M17x costs $700 less, but offers a sleeker design, comparable performance, longer battery life and sweeter backlighting features.

Ahead of the race. Sporting one of the newest Clevo shells, the Racer 3W succeeds the previous Racer 2.0 by including Haswell updates and one of the fastest mobile Quadro GPUs available. We test drive this racer of a notebook against other powerhouse DTRs.

Eurocom: Eurocom Corporation is a computer hardware manufacturing company founded in 1989 with offices in Canada and USA. Eurocom produces Desktop Replacement Notebooks and Mobile Workstations.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
AMD Radeon HD 6970M:
High-end graphics card from AMD based on the desktop HD 6850 with UVD3 video processing and Eyefinity+.
AMD Radeon HD 7970M: High-end GPU by AMD manufactured in 28nm and based on the GCN architecture.
NVIDIA Quadro K5100M:
High-end workstation graphics card based on the GK104 Kepler architecture with 1536 shaders and a 256-Bit wide memory bus. GPU is similar to the consumer GTX 780M, but with slightly reduced clock rates.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
2720QM: Fast Quad-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.
3920XM: Fastest Ivy Bridge mobile CPU (and fastest mobile CPU at all) at the time of arrival (April 2012) and clocked at 2.9 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.8 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4000 GPU running at 650-1300 MHz on a dual channel DDR3 memory controller. Compared to the other quad-core it features a 10W higher TDP of 55W.
4930MX: Mobile quad-core processor based on the Haswell architecture. Fastest CPU in Q2/2013 with an unlocked multiplier.

3.1 kg:
A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.
3.29 kg:
82.89%: This rating is slightly above average, there are somewhat more devices with worse ratings. However, clear purchase recommendations look different.
