Deal | Epic Games Store delivers multi-award-winning puzzle platformer as December 29 free game

Epic Games Store has revealed the third final PC game giveaway for the year 2025. It's the thirteenth mystery free game of this Christmas season, and it somewhat fits what many were expecting. To be specific, fans predicted that it would be an indie title, which matched, but the current freebie has won many awards and is critically acclaimed.

For those wondering, it's Viewfinder, an indie game from 2023, and just like the last free games from Epic Games Store, it will be available to claim for $0 for just 24 hours. More specifically, it will expire on December 30, 2025, at UTC 16:00, and that's when the penultimate freebie for the year will be revealed.

Developed by Sad Owl Studios, Viewfinder is a first-person puzzle game with unique gameplay mechanics. Players get to reshape their environments using photographs, making even the simple environmental puzzles feel enjoyable to solve.

Players also praise the rewind system of the current Epic Games Store game, which encourages creative trial-and-error gameplay. The art style has received much praise as well, and the sound design complements the overall hand-drawn visuals of Viewfinder.

Controls of the game are regarded as simple, and there's full support for controllers (Manba One curr. $55.99 on Amazon). While all that sounds great, Viewfinder is criticized for having a short story. Some of the puzzles are also a bit too easy to solve, which hardcore puzzle platformer fans may not like.

The game's sci-fi premise is considered to be interesting as well, but the plot and characters are lightly sketched. Still, Viewfinder is well-reviewed, with it currently having a 92% positive rating on Steam with over 5,400 reviews. It has also received multiple awards at The Game Awards, the IndieCade Festival, The Golden Joysticks, BAFTA, and more.
