Many car enthusiasts slated the Mustang Mach-E when it was revealed by Ford for not being powered by gas. However, the electric SUV is proving its mettle by outselling the ICE version by more than 100 percent.
Ford sold 20,177 units of the Mustang Mach-E in the third quarter of 2025, while the gas Mustang moved only 9,267. However, many auto analysts would agree that it was only a matter of time before the electric car dominated, as it edged out the traditional model by more than 4,000 units in 2024, when the model sold 51,745.
In comparison, the Mach-E sales performed 50 percent better than in Q3 2024. However, the increase was not totally unexpected, especially in the US market. The $7,500 federal tax credit ended on September 30, and it was only natural that many buyers rushed to take advantage of the incentive at the last minute.
Similarly, the F-150 Lightning sales spiked by 40 percent, with 10,005 units sold in Q3 2025. Ford has delivered 23,034 of the electric pickup truck year-to-date.
Ford, however, had hatched a plan to make the $7,500 savings available for a few more months. The automaker got a sign-off from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to initiate the purchase of existing inventory, thereby qualifying them for the incentive, before dealers pass the savings on to lessees.
