Chinese robotics manufacturer Dobot has unveiled one of its most interesting products to date: the Rover X1. Priced at the equivalent of just around $1050, the Rover X1 costs barely more than many advanced robot vacuums and mops, yet it promises far greater versatility.
Thanks to its dual-vision tracking system, the robot can perceive its surroundings and navigate the real world. This allows, for example, the Rover X1 to be used as a mobile security camera and patrolling a home when no one is there. With a gimbal mounted on its back, the robot can hold an action camera and follow a person in order to record vlogging videos.
The robot can also carry small loads on its back, such as bringing shopping to the kitchen or carrying a backpack. The Rover X1 is controlled by voice commands, allowing it to function, for example, as an artificial pet and play with children. The feet can be replaced with wheels, enabling the robot to reach higher speeds. A programming interface allows third-party software to expand its functionality.
Price and availability
The Dobot Rover X1 will be offered in China for 7,499 yuan (approx. $1050), but the manufacturer has not yet confirmed when delivery of the robot dog will begin or whether a paid subscription is required to use all functions.
