Ukraine-based game developers have expressed concern and outrage over the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict. These include Kyiv-based GSC Game World, makers of the popular S.T.A.L.K.E.R games, and 4A Games, developers of the Metro franchise among others. The developers appealed for support and posted an Ukrainian international bank account for supporting their army.

The world witnessed an unprecedent development in Europe when Russian forces crossed over into Ukraine. With Ukraine's future now on tenterhooks, citizens, including game developers, have expressed outrage.

Ukrainian game developer GSC Game World, makers of the popular S.T.A.L.K.E.R and upcoming S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 post-apocalyptic horror-themed games have asked for support from the global community. In a Twitter post, GSC Game World tweeted,

The Russian Federation has declared war on Ukraine. The future is unknown, but we are sure of our Armed Forces and country. We ask all: do not stand aside and help those in need."

The company further tweeted,

As of today, the Russian Federation has officially declared war on Ukraine. Our country woke up with the sounds of explosions and weapons fire, but is ready to defend its freedom and independence for it remains strong and ready for anything.”

The developers also specified an international bank account number soliciting funds for supporting the Ukrainian Armed Forces. 4A Games, another Kyiv-based game developer and makers of the popular Metro franchise expressed concern about "game scenarios starting to resemble reality". The studio said,

We're neither politicians, nor superheroes — we're game developers. Our large family includes people from all over the world, and all of us want just one thing — for the horrors of war not to ever break out of imaginary worlds."

Ukraine is home to several other studios well including Frogware and subsidiaries of Crytek and Ubisoft among others. Ubisoft, in fact, operates two studios — one in Kyiv and one in Odessa, both of which have seen Russian onslaught in this conflict. Speaking to Kotaku, a Ubisoft representative said,

The safety and wellbeing of our team members is always our primary concern. We are monitoring the situation closely and have already implemented several measures to help keep our teams in Ukraine safe. We also are providing assistance and aid to all team members. We don’t have more details to share at this time but will continue to monitor and adjust to the situation as it evolves.”
