The Ctrl-Bar, an accessory bringing physical buttons to Tesla EVs, is now crowdfunding on Indiegogo. The company behind the gadget suggests that it helps you to adjust essentials like climate controls without taking your eyes off the road. The device is compatible with Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, attaching to the bottom of the infotainment screen.
The Ctrl-Bar has two scroll wheels the driver and passenger can use to alter the temperature and four programmable push buttons to control features like heated seats, Defrost Mode and Dog Mode. Any adjustments made using the device are reflected on the Tesla’s built-in screen with a slight delay; an integrated screen on the Ctrl-Bar shows changes in real time. The company suggests that a speed trap warning will be available via a subscription, providing audible alerts if you approach a camera above the speed limit. Plus, OTA updates will be available based on user feedback.
The gadget has a black glass finish to match the existing screen’s bezel and integrated LEDs to throw colored light across the center console and into the front footwells. To use the Ctrl-Bar, you must power the device via USB and connect your smartphone via Bluetooth; your phone runs the accompanying app in the background. The company notes that Premium Connectivity is not required to use the gadget. The minimum pledge level for the Ctrl-Bar Indiegogo campaign is currently €249 (~US$271). According to the product page, this is a 24% discount on the MSRP. The gadget is due to ship worldwide in June.
