Tech billionaires may be able to game the taxation systems and other institutions, but they are not free from public scrutiny and mockery. The latest example of that comes from California’s Silicon Valley crosswalks. A hacker has hijacked the crosswalk buttons to play audio clips mocking Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, in their own voice.
Of course, the audio clips are AI generated and have been programmed to mock Musk and Zuckerberg. The clips were shared on TikTok showing what happens when the crosswalk buttons in Menlo Park and Palo Alto are used. The one in Menlo Park, which is where Meta is based, says, “Hi this is Mark Zuckerberg, but real ones call me the Zuck. You know its normal to feel uncomfortable or even violated as we forcefully insert AI into every facet of your conscious experiences, and I wanna assure you, you don’t need to worry because there is absolutely nothing you can do to stop it. Anyway, see ya.”
The one in Palo Alto dedicated to Elon Musk starts with, “Hi, this is Elon Musk. Welcome to Palo Alto, the home of Tesla engineering. You know they say money can’t buy happiness and..yeah..okay.. I guess that’s true. God knows I’ve tried,” It then goes on to say, “but it can buy a Cybertruck and that’s pretty sick right?..right?...F*** I’m so alone.”
Another crosswalk in the voice of Elon Musk says, “You know people keep saying cancer is bad, but have you tried being a cancer? It’s f***ing awesome.”
The crosswalk button voice announcements in the affected areas have since been temporarily shut down as officials are investigating how and who may have hacked these systems.
