Citizen’s new compact titanium limited-edition features a Duratect Platinum case

Alongside the two new smaller models we covered earlier, Citizen has also added a limited version of its square xC hikari watch, capped at 250 pieces and sold only through selected stores. The ES9501-58W costs 132,000 yen including tax, or about $760 before Japan’s 10% consumption tax kicks in. It reaches shops on 5 November.
The case is the same 25 mm square at 7.8 mm thick that Citizen has used across the hikari Square 2way line since September. This time, however, the watch gets a different finish. Citizen pairs a Duratect Platinum case with a Duratect Sakura Pink bezel, leading to a two-tone split between silver and muted rose. Both are surface hardening treatments applied to Super Titanium. That is how Citizen arrives at a claimed 40% weight saving over steel and five times its surface hardness, with the finished watch at only 35 g.
The dial is grey. It gets a mix of Arabic numerals and bar indices that are both lumed, and a lab-grown diamond with cut elements set at nine o’clock. Dial components use recycled material. Sapphire with an anti-reflective coating covers it, and water resistance is 5 bar.
Caliber H060 is the radio-controlled Eco-Drive already found elsewhere in the line. It syncs to transmitters in Japan, China, Europe and the United States, holds to 15 seconds a month without a signal, and runs around three years on a full charge with power saving on. The function list covers a perpetual calendar, 24-zone world time, Direct Flight time-zone changes from the crown, and the Perfex package of JIS class 1 magnetic resistance, shock detection and automatic hand correction.
This one ships on a Super Titanium bracelet with a grey embossed cowhide spare, where the ES9503-01E that launched in September came with two leather straps at 110,000 yen.
