B&N slashes Nook Simple Touch and Nook HD prices in the UK

Teaser
Barnes & Noble cuts Nook Simple Touch to just £29 while the 9" HD tablet is now £179.

Amazon recently cut prices on their Kindle Fire lineup, and Barnes & Noble, their direct competitor, has just followed suit. The company is introducing price cuts across the board on their Nook e-readers and tablets, although the savings appear to be limited to the UK.

As part of the "Get London Reading" initiative, Nook is donating over 1,000 devices to the Beanstalk literacy charity along with reducing prices on their retail devices. Starting today, the Nook Simple Touch e-reader is down over 60% to just £29, while the GlowLight equipped model is now just £69. The discounts aren't just limited to the e-readers either, with the 7" and 9" models of the Nook Tablet HD now only £129 and £179 respectively.

Although the price cuts are only for a limited time, Barnes & Noble e-reader and tablet lineup is currently cheaper than Amazon's offering, which could boost sales in the UK. There is no word as to whether the discounts will ever find their way stateside, but folks in the UK would do well in jumping on this deal as soon as possible.
