One of the best things about this machine is its cooling. It can take all of the abuse even from the top-tier spec. Although the one we tested was not the top model, it clearly shows how well this system works. With three fans and liquid metal, it is one of the more revolutionary designs out there. It is going to be interesting how it will compare to some vapor chamber solutions out there. Despite the very powerful hardware, the ASUS ROG Strix G18 (G814, 2023) has a good battery life. It lasts up to 10 hours of light use. This is commendable, considering the fact that the HX-series of Intel CPUs have a 55W TDP – higher than any consumer laptop processor out there. To accommodate the great cooling, and the large display, ASUS has made the laptop a bit heavy and clunky. Its thickness reaches about 30mm, while the weight is set in stone at 3.00 kg.

This Asus ROG Strix G18 is one of the better mid-tier mid-priced laptops available with a large 18-inch display. Asus offers this in multiple configurations, and most of them are competitive in their segments, with powerful specs and an oversized cooling module that allows for excellent performance and gaming abilities even at sub 40 dBA noise levels.

I was surprised at the ROG Strix G18’s pricing of Rs 2,19,900 for my unit. Honestly, I had expected a bit more seeing the specs that are on offer. The target audience of hardcore gaming enthusiasts will benefit from this as will consumers who are into more creative tasks. The laptop’s large dimensions, however, will not help those looking for portability. There are no complaints from my side in terms of its graphical output and performance levels though. Overall, the ROG Strix G18 is a very well-rounded machine that is meant to stay put in your house and on which you can game away to your heart’s content. A definite recommendation in the premium gaming market.

If you’ve been hankering for a giant, 18-inch gaming laptop, you suddenly have a lot of options — and believe it or not, they’re all pretty good. While the models of the Alienware m18 and Razer Blade 18 we tested both land in a higher price bracket and provide extra gaming power, the Asus ROG Strix G18 manages to deliver a complete package with a smidge less gaming prowess but a more palatable price. It’s not without flaws, like heat spikes and some keyboard and webcam qualms, but even so, Asus effectively put a desktop into a portable-enough package that you can plop onto your lap (or desk, ideally) to dive into some killer gaming.

Asus’ ROG Strix G18 is a beast of a laptop. Intel’s Core i9-13980HX delivers stunning processor performance, which should please content creators. The Nvidia RTX 4070 is not as impressive but capable of 60 fps (and often far more) in demanding games. The 18-inch, 240Hz IPS LCD display is another strength, offering excellent color performance and motion clarity. However, it has a lower contrast ratio due to its conventional IPS LCD screen. Surprisingly, the ROG Strix G18 provides respectable battery life, lasting over nine hours in testing. The laptop’s size is an obvious downside. Its dimensions make it difficult to carry, and Asus’ chassis design isn’t impressive. The speakers and webcam fall short, with the former providing weak audio and the latter capturing low-quality images. The ROG Strix G18's is a good value at the laptop’s $2,300 MSRP. The Alienware M18 and Razer Blade 18 are hundreds of dollars more when similarly equipped, leaving room for Asus to slot in the ROG Strix G18 as a more affordable alternative.
