Apple expects huge surge in iPad 2 demands courtesy back-to-school season

Teaser
The iPad 2 panel shipping from OEMs might go above 10.5 million units

As the schools are starting to open, Apple is a huge surge in demand for its iPad 2 tablet, and rightly started ordering panels in excess of million – as reported by Electronista. One of its panel makers Chimei Innolux is expected to ship about 400,000 to 500,000 iPad panels in June but atleast more than double of that in the next month i.e July. Digitimes reports that the other panel manufacturers such as TPK or Wintek are expected to raise the lot sizes as well. All OEMs together, Apple is expected to order 3.5 – 4 million iPad panels every month starting July which makes it about 10.5 to 12 million iPad 2 shipments per quarter.

This huge surge in demands might force smaller manufacturers like Chimei to drastically increase their plant capacity, which, if not possible, might invite an expulsion from the suppliers list.

If what Apple expects turns out to be true, this might be the Cupertino Company’s first million plus quarter in terms of iPad sales. A distant second, the Acer Iconia Tabs achieved 1 million unit shipment in its first month of launch.
