When the iPad 2 debuted back in March, there were long lines to be found at most retail store locations. Furthermore, if customers put an order in for one via the Apple Store, they were typically in for a 4 to 6 week wait. Shipping times have been on a decreasing trend since the beginning of the month. In the first few weeks of July, there have been decreases to 1 week of shipping time, and then to a 3 to 5 day wait time.
Over this weekend, the Apple Store has been updated to reflect 1 to 3 days of shipping time for all models of the iPad 2. This includes the Wi-Fi models, both the AT&T and Verizon flavors of the 3G models, and all memory size variants of each (16, 32, and 64GB).
Timing of the increased availability is fortunate, as Apple made an iOS upgrade to version 4.3.4, available for download this week. The update primarily addresses a PDF flaw that was discovered by modders in the first week of July.
