iTunes has been an Apple staple for years, finding its way into a myriad of devices, yet staying far away from other ecosystems. That could be set to change however, as a new report indicates that Apple is exploring the possibility of an iTunes app for Android.
According to Billboard.com, Apple is thinking of expanding their music store to include Android, hoping to entice the millions of users in the process. This could also be accompanied by an expansion of iTunes Radio, with a transition towards a flat-fee subscription service that would rival Spotify and others.
While iTunes for Android definitely sounds appealing, Apple may have missed the boat with many Android users already having significant music libraries through Google Play and Amazon. Nonetheless, over 40% of U.S. recorded music revenue is sold through iTunes, and Apple is exploring any way to reverse their declining sales.
