Reviews for the Apple MacBook Pro 17 inch 2010-04
Core Update. Apple's 17 inch aluminum notebook has also been upgraded and now features a Core i5, Intel graphics and even an automatically switching GeForce GT330M. The performance benefits from this update greatly, but there is a catch under maximum load.

Archive.org versionApple's MacBook Pro 17 missed out on the first round of upgrades to the new Core 2010 processors but it brings a welcome performance boost. While the external design and ports haven't changed, there were some significant changes to the graphics subsystem including an auto-switching hybrid system that for the most parts works but at times can impact battery performance more than it should.

Archive.org versionSitting among this month's monsters, Apple's MacBook Pro looks sleek, graceful and... small. It certainly doesn't look its 17 inches, and the compact keyboard and almost complete lack of external features only accentuate that illusion. Don't be fooled; this $3000-plus wallet-buster has plenty to offer.

Archive.org versionThe new 17-inch Apple MacBook Pro just got a lot better in terms of hardware and performance. It has a very good 17-inch display and also gives better battery life compared to the older MacBook Pro it replaces.

Archive.org versionThe new 17-inch MacBook Pro is expensive, but as it's only £10 more than the previous model, it's still good value for money. Welcome new processor and graphics technologies make this release a very significant upgrade.

Archive.org versionOverall, the MacBook Pro is desirable in a number of ways. It will turn heads, and impress people, and it does look fantastic running Windows through BootCamp. We do wonder, though, whether concessions could be made to the design for, dare we say it, practicality.

Archive.org versionAt first glance, you may not notice anything different about Apple’s latest line of MacBook Pros, introduced in April 2010. The new models, which feature 13-, 15- and 17-inch screens, sport the same sleek, minimalist design, the same keyboard, and the same multi-touch trackpad as the previous iteration. The inclusion of Core i5 and i7 processors, improved graphics technology, and unbeatable battery life take the big-screen MacBook Pro to the next level.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M: The Nvidia GeForce GT 330M is the successor of the GT 230M and technically just a slightly higher clocked GT 240M (but it should still maintain the power envelope of the GT 230M as the naming suggests).
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.
540M: The Core i5-540M has only 3 MB L3 Cache (compared to the I7-620M) and clocks between 2.53-3.06 GHz (Turbo Mode). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD 3150) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
