Apple introduced its first shiny in-house chipset with the launch of the MacBook Air M1 in 2020. While the Cupertino giant has already debuted 3rd generation of its M series silicon, the first-generation models are still a good purchase. Things get even better with this deal in place, which has dropped the first Apple M-powered laptop to its record-low price.

We tested both the early Apple MacBook Air M1 2020 and the late 2020 variant right after Apple unrolled the curtains of these laptops. One of the main differences between the two is that the entry variant has one of the eight graphics cores of the powerful Apple M1 SoC disabled. However, the clock speeds of both the CPU and GPU are comparable.

This difference in the Apple M1 GPU cores makes the early MacBook Air 2020 model sit comfortably under the $1,000 mark. It has now dipped to an even lower price tag of $749.99 on Amazon, enjoying a $250 discount from the regular pricing. This is the all-time low pricing for the laptop, and it’s likely the cheapest way to get your hands on a brand-new macOS laptop featuring Apple silicon.

Now, while the Apple M1 chipset of the early MacBook Air 2020 is a bit old, it’s still capable of powering through most tasks. In our benchmarks, the M1 SoC performs better than some of the Intel 12th Generation Core i7 CPUs you will find in laptops over the $1,000 range.

As for the GPU, although this entry-level MacBook Air M1 2020 has seven graphics cores, it offers a very close performance to the 8-core Apple M1 GPU. Other core specs of the early 2020 variant include 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, all soldered to the main board.

The soldered 256 GB SSD is a problem here, but the good part is that the MacBook Air M1 laptop has two Thunderbolt 3 / USB 4 ports on the left side. You can use them to connect external SSDs and expand the storage (SanDisk Professional 1 TB Thunderbolt 3 SSD curr. $179.99 on Amazon).

Other highlights of the Apple MacBook Air M1 2020 include a 13.3-inch Retina display with wide DCI-P3 color coverage, a sleek and fanless design, and up to 18 hours of battery life. You can learn more from the video attached below or our in-depth review that’s accessible via this link.
