Apple: Leaks shed light on detailed iPad 2 specs

Teaser
Insiders suggest 1.2GHz dual-core CPU for the iPad 2

The second generation iPad is the next hot thing coming up in the space of ultramobile computers. The Apple tablet’s specifications have as of yet been unclear and rumors have been doing the rounds about the iPad 2 having a camera and dual-core processor, among others.

But now, reports are pointing towards some concrete specifications of the upcoming tablet. As sources are putting, the iPad 2 will be powered by a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU running at 1.2GHz. Now this, compared to the 1GHz single-core A8 CPU found in the current iPad, will provide a significant boost in performance. Handling the graphics duties on the tablet would be the dual-core PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU and memory would be at 512MB and clocked at 1,066MHz.

Sources also put that the new LCD would be thin by one-third of what it used to be, and although the device wouldn’t feature Apple’s proprietary Retina Display, the display quality would be better than the current generation model. About the camera, sources reaffirm what we have previously reported - dual cameras for the iPad 2. 3G versions for both HSPA and EVDO are in line for production too. Talking of production, Apple plans to ship about 4.5-5 Million units of the iPad in the first quarter itself, inclusive of the second-generation model.

While pricing and availability details are yet to be divulged officially, we can very well expect the Apple iPad 2 to be shipping late March or early April. And, with the specifications that have been divulged by insiders, we can definitely say Apple has with it a performer worth of beating the competition.
