Alleged Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 makes tepid Geekbench debut
Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7 Gen series of mobile SoCs is marred with confusing products that sound the same ( Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2, Snapdragon 7s Gen 2) but perform nothing alike. The flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen series has been cut and dry so far, with one new high-end chip launching every year. If a recent Geekbench listing is accurate, that could change soon.
Digital Chat Station over on Weibo says Qualcomm is working on a new 8-series SoC called the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, codenamed SM8635. It features one prime core at 3.01 GHz, four high-performance cores at 2.61 GHz and three efficiency cores at 1.84 GHz. The leaker adds it features an Adreno 735 GPU clocked at 900-ish MHz and that it is manufactured on TSMC's 4 nm (exact node (N4E/N4P/N4) not mentioned) process. The supposed Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 has now shown up on Geekbench alongside an unnamed Realme smartphone.
It scores 1,512 and 3,799 on Geekbench 6.2's single and multi-core tests. This is a bit disappointing as it falls short of its expected performance, which is said to be near that of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. However, the above scores show it to perform on par with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Nevertheless, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 sample above could do better with more fine-tuning. A Weibo poster states the yet-to-be-launched chip could also power the upcoming Redmi Note 13 Turbo (non-Turbo version available on Amazon for €190).
