Acer Iconia Talk S

The tablet industry has taken a hit from the ultraportable laptop market and the ever increasing smartphone market. Nevertheless, Acer has a new traditional tablet that doesn't convert into a laptop. The Iconia Talk S is Acer’s new budget tablet released in October 2016. This tablet features an interesting design, by combining black and gold colors. The back of the cover is slightly textured with a gold color Acer logo and a gold framed camera. The gold color Acer logo can be also seen at the front of the tablet along with a gold coloured speaker on top. The tablet measures 191.7 x 101 x 9.35 mm, while it weighs 260 g. The tablet features a MediaTek’s MT8735 quad-core processor and a Mali-T720MP2 graphic processing unit paired with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. The storage capacity can be further expanded by up to 128 GB via the built in microSD slot. In front is a 7-inch (800 x 1280 pixels) Active Matrix TFT Colour LCD touchscreen display. Thanks to the IPS display technology, colors on the screen stay true no matter what angle a user view from. The screen supports multi-touch and has a pixel density of approximately 216 ppi which isn't that great but does the job. The screen-to-body ratio of this tablet is at approximately 73.4 %. The 13 MP snapper is placed on the back of this tablet, and a 2 MP unit can be found on its front side. The latter helps in video calling and taking stylish selfies. The 13 MP camera features autofocus, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR and panorama mode. It is capable of capturing video at 1080p@30fps. The inbuilt camera comes with LED flash, which allows users to grab pictures in low-lighting conditions. The Acer Iconia Talk S comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box, along with some software additions from Acer’s Iconia Suite apps, including EZ Snap, EZ WakeUp and EZ Utilities. Acer also included Microsoft’s Office Suite in the phablet. The bloatware on this device puts a strain on the performance. However, it can be disabled if not needed. Besides that, the Acer Iconia Talk S supports 4G-network communications. The non-removable Li-Po 3780mAh battery can last up to 12 hours of active use through videos, gaming and web browsing according to Acer and if this is true, it will be one of the best in this size. The Acer Iconia Talk S supports Dual SIM function. This provides flexibility and allows keeping work and personal contacts in one device. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0. The Acer Iconia Talk S is a typical tablet for users who are looking to do some reading or a little bit of work on it. It isn't great and there are many complains on its hardware performance. That being said, the 7 inch tablet category generally doesn't offer great performance but they are priced reasonably.
