60% Acer Chromebook 714 review: Unfussy, affordable and effective
Source: It Pro English
The Acer Chromebook 714 can’t compete with pricier rivals on slim design and screen quality, and it often lags when it comes to raw power. If you want the market’s most stylish or speediest Chromebook, then you’re going to have to spend more. It’s possibly one of the best value Chromebooks around, though: it undercuts the competition significantly, it’s got enough power to handle everyday workloads, and it has a sturdy, good-looking chassis and decent battery life. It’s a good-value middle ground between premium options and bargain-basement portables.

The Acer Chromebook 714 has a sleek aluminum chassis that I can't stop touching; its aversion to fingerprints and military-rated durality is another alluring draw of this professional-looking laptop. Worker bees will experience speedy productivity on this machine — its clicky keyboard and multitasking-friendly system will have users whizzing through assignments and tasks. Its snazzy-looking fingerprint reader is another interesting and rare feature.

This Is The Best 15-Inch Chromebook For Your Money [Video]
Source: Chrome Unboxed English Archive.org version
Would I say this is better than the Lenovo Yoga Chromebook C630? No. I think the Lenovo is a better overall device. But the Yoga costs twice what this one does, so at this price, it doesn’t even enter the conversation. That is precisely why I’m saying this is the best 15-inch Chromebook for the money right now. Other 15-inch devices in this price range aren’t worth your time or money. Even if you ended up finding one of the other 15-inch Chromebooks for $50 or $75 cheaper, this one is so much better than all of them that I’d highly advise finding a way to come up with that extra cash. This Chromebook is truly one of those rare exceptions to the “get what you pay for” rule: it really is much better than what you are paying for it.

83% Acer Chromebook 714 review: I wish Chromebooks were always this nice
Source: CNet English Archive.org version
While Acer has definitely made the Chromebook 714 for business, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking for a sturdy Chromebook for home or school use. The configuration I tested was fine for handling typical daily tasks and entertainment (though you'll definitely want headphones or external speakers if you want to actually enjoy what you're listening to; the built-in speakers are thin and tinny).

Acer Chromebook 714 review: So close to greatness
Source: Android Authority English Archive.org version
At the same time, those going into the Chromebook 714 need to temper expectations, primarily with respect to the display and keyboard. The ho-hum display and mushy keys with the flaky space bar prevent what is a good laptop from being a great laptop.

Sorrowfully short battery life is the only thing that keeps Acer's 14-inch, Core i3-based Chromebook 714 from setting a new standard for business-ready Chrome OS laptops. The Acer Chromebook 714 targets the enterprise with features ranging from a fingerprint reader to Google Assistant.

For now, I’d say hold off on this one until we start seeing sales. As it is being targeted towards the enterprise, it might take a bit of time to see those price drops. With Acer choosing to make this one much more widely-available in consumer markets already, however, I’d assume we’ll see the price dip down soon enough. If it comes down into the $400-$500 price range, my thoughts would shift quite a bit as I think this Chromebook offers a lot for the money and could be a device that user not only enjoy but can confidently own knowing it will stand up to a lot of abuse.

If your company or education establishment wants to save on the cost of Windows notebooks this Chromebook may help as it has the basic power and memory to run Parallels for Windows allowing you to run Windows in a ‘sandbox’ while still running Chrome on the machine your company will however still need Windows licenses for every Chromebook running it though, currently they are Windows 10.

I can’t help but feel a little underwhelmed by the Acer Chromebook 714. While its performance offers a degree of balance and its battery life is ideal for day-to-day working, it does have a fair few shortcomings. The 714 is let down by its dim display, hollow-feeling shell and the simple fact it runs ChromeOS. Considering that the budget-end of the laptop scene is increasingly being occupied by decent Windows machines that can offer more freedom and superior performances, Acer’s Chromebook is a hard sell right now. That said, if you’d actually prefer the simplicity of ChromeOS over Windows, and fancy a smooth performance for office/student workloads, then the Acer Chromebook 714 is still a worthwhile laptop option to consider. Out of the box, the Acer Chromebook 714 makes a solid impression - literally. With an all-aluminium chassis it’s both pleasingly rigid and reasonably slim. Slight demerits when it comes to build involve a little bounce to the keyboard bed and some rattle from the generously proportioned trackpad.

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.

Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel UHD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2, 24 EUs) found on some Kaby-Lake-Refresh CPU models (15 W ULV series). Technically identical to the previous Kaby-Lake GPU called HD Graphics 620.

Intel Kaby Lake Refresh:

i3-8130U: On the Kaby-Lake architecture based dual core SoC clocked at 2.2 to 3.4 GHz with HyperThreading (4 Threads) and an integrated UHD Graphics 620 graphics card clocked at up to 1 GHz.

i5-8250U: Kaby-Lake-Refresh based low power quad-core processor. The four cores are clocked between 1.6 and 3.4 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading. The integrated GPU is clocked between 300 and 1,100 MHz. The SoC is manufactured in a 14nm+ FinFET process.

14.00:

14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.

The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.

In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

75.89%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
