We heard about ASUS working on a 'mini' variant of its upcoming ZenFone 8 lineup. One leak suggested that it would run a Snapdragon 888 chipset, while another said that it would use a Snapdragon 870 instead. It looks like the former is correct, as the ASUS ZenFone 8 Mini just showed up on Geekbench running a Snapdragon 888 SoC.
Twitter leaker @Stufflistings stumbled upon the ZenFone 8 Mini online. Its single-core score of 1,121 and multi-core score of 3,662 sit in line with other Snapdragon 888-powered smartphones. While the multi-core score could be a tad higher, we can chalk it down to the ZenFone 8 Mini in question running pre-production software.
This particular ASUS ZenFone 8 Mini variant model shows up as Asus ASUS_1006D multiple times with 16GB of RAM. There is another variant called Asus ASUS_1005DA running the same chipset, but with lesser RAM. Therefore, we can reasonably assume that the ZenFone 8 Mini will be available in 8GB, 12GB and 16GB RAM flavours.
The remaining ASUS ZenFone 8 Mini specs are shrouded by mystery. We know that the smartphone could ship with a 5.9-inch screen and three camera sensors, one of which could be a 64 MP IMX686 module. Given the phone's compact form factor, we're probably looking at a ~4,000mAh battery at best.
