AOC reveals 15.6-inch secondary display for notebooks

Taiwan-based corporation AOC is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of monitors and televisions, so its announcement of a new 15.6-inch external display for notebooks is perhaps somewhat unsurprising.

Called the e1649fwu, this LED monitor was designed for mobile users who could use the extra screen space in the form of a secondary monitor. Not only does the display connect to a laptop through a USB port, but it can draw enough power from the same port as well, so a separate power cable is not required. The built-in foldable stand allows the monitor to easily swivel between portrait and landscape mode, while the glass screen is a very welcomed addition for increased protection if on the move.

The USB Monitor showcases AOC’s dedication to expanding its display offerings and using the latest technologies to come out with innovative and user friendly products,” said AOC Marketing Manager Robert Velez in the press release. Business users in particular would definitely benefit from the AOC display.

As for specs, a native resolution of 1366x768 is supported with 5ms response time. The listed brightness is respectable at 250cd/m2. Unfortunately, both the actual weight and thickness of the monitor are not mentioned in the PR, which are definitely important factors if the end user will be lugging around a 15.6-inch monitor between locations.

Lenovo recently announced its own external monitor as well, called the ThinkVision LT1421.

The AOC e1649fwu will be available sometime this October for $139.
