Xiaomi offers up questionable solution for a foldable smartphone that takes great selfies in new design patent
Xiaomi has come up with a new method to solve the problem of selfie cameras just not being good enough for demanding selfie lovers. In a new design patent that was recently approved by the National Intellectual Property Administration of China, there is a simple drawing of a Xiaomi smartphone in two different forms (see below for image).
The first form of the potential Xiaomi foldable smartphone is viewed from the rear, judging by the position of the hardware buttons. The top part of the device is folded over towards the back, and it reveals three sensors for the camera setup. In this form, the Xiaomi smartphone could take decent photographs while the user is looking at the main display.
However, the second form of the Xiaomi foldable depicts the device in its fully unfolded state from the front. Clearly, it is quite a lengthy device, and the foldable section is now firmly in place at the top edge, with the same three lenses on show. Presuming Xiaomi would fit such a smartphone with a powerful camera system, this would be a bit of a game-changer for selfie fans. The folding mechanism itself could be questionable as a potentially easily damaged moving part, and the giant size of the Xiaomi device is an eyebrow raiser, but not all patents make it past the initial concept design stage.
