In 2024, Xbox began adding game-themed designs to Xbox Design Lab starting with Fallout and then Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. This year, it has added several more including Avowed, Helldivers, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Borderlands 4, Ninja Gaiden 4, and Hollow Knight: Silksong. The latest to join the list is The Outer Worlds 2, ahead of the game's release later this month.
The design theme for The Outer Worlds 2 is available for both the standard Xbox Wireless Controller (curr. available on Amazon for $54) and the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2. Creating your own custom controller is pretty straightforward. All you have to do is go to the Xbox Design Lab website and select if you want to customize a standard controller or the elite controller. Choose The Outer Worlds 2 in the body section of the customization menu.
There's only one pattern available, so the only way to differentiate your controller from others is to customize the rest of the features such as the color of the back, D-pad, ABXY buttons, thumbsticks, triggers, bumpers, grips, paddles, and the View, Menu, and Share buttons. There's also the option to add a custom engraved message on the controller.
Pricing for a custom The Outer Worlds Xbox Wireless Controller starts at $98.97 for the standard version and $188.97 (without the paddles pack) for the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2.
The Outer Worlds 2 releases on October 29, 2025 for the Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5, and PC. It will also be available on day one with Xbox Game Pass.
