Verizon to issue bill credits following nationwide cellular, broadband outage

Verizon has just recovered from a major outage, and at one of the worst possible times for its US customer base too. The disruption reportedly started on August 30, 2025, right in conjunction with the country's major Labor Day holiday.

Up to 50% of the carrier's users were affected at one point on that day, according to some reports. Of those, some were still able to access services such as Apple's SOS via Satellite while others were completely deprived of cellular coverage.

The situation persisted until August 31, with Verizon finally conceding that the issue was due to an update of the software installed on all devices locked to its network.

Most of those electronics were smartphones, although there are some reports that fiber-optic services provided by the same company were also unavailable during the outage.

Customers who were deprived of services for 24 hours or more are now advised to contact the carrier and hold them to its policy of issuing bill credit in that event. Affected consumers have 180 days from the time of the fault experienced to do so.

It should be noted that there are claims of inconsistency on Verizon's part out there, with, for example, one customer being offered $20 in credit while another reported the receipt of a $33 payout.
