Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be doubling down on nostalgia, offering remastered maps and mechanics from previous Black Ops titles. The title continues the storyline from both Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 2 when it launches on 14th November 2025.

During a recent rapid Q&A session for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Treyarch Design Director Matt Scronce confirmed that post-launch content for the upcoming Black Ops installment will feature remasters of maps from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

When Scronce was asked to confirm if previous Black Ops 2 maps that haven’t yet been remastered would make it to the game, he offered a firm “Yeah, you can.” This makes for an exciting development for veteran Black Ops fans who haven’t seen fresh takes on older maps since the game’s release in November 2012.

Considering that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is a follow-up to the story of Black Ops 2, featuring the likes of Raul Menendez, and protagonist David Mason, son of Alex Mason from Black Ops 1, who is killed in action in the mission Suffer With Me during Black Ops 2’s campaign. Following suit, Black Ops 7 is rumored to prioritize nostalgia, with the game honing mechanics from earlier Call of Duty titles.

At launch, Call of Duty Black Ops 7’s multiplayer mode will feature 16 6v6 maps, consisting of 13 brand-new originals along with three remastered maps from Black Ops 2, according to reliable insider TheGhostofHope.

But these remastered Black Ops 2 maps will change things up a notch, offering a more colorful palette compared to what we’ve seen in Black Ops 6, akin to what we’ve seen in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Confirmed returnees to the franchise include Express and Raid, both pretty much staples of Black Ops 2’s multiplayer.

Additional maps at launch include The Forge, Toshin, Exposure, Cortez, Scar, Den, Homestead, Colossus, Imprint, Dry Dock, Retrieval, Paranoia, and last but not least, Black Heart. Furthermore, two new, larger-scale maps will be featured for Ground War mode.

Further leaks have confirmed that Hijacked could join Express as another launch remaster map. Players are hoping for some fan-favorite Black Ops 2 maps to return to the game, including the tight, close-quarters Yemen and the open-square Plaza for mid-range gunfights.

Users speculate that Standoff might make a return to Black Ops 7 alongside Meltdown, both of which have avoided remasters despite their popularity in Black Ops 2’s multiplayer scene.
