Toshiba Satellite Click W35Dt-AST2N01

The tablet-laptop hybrid scenery is a major result of the Windows 8’s dual personality characteristics. Most of these devices out there tend to provide a compromising solution to what is supposed to be a laptop or a tablet. The Toshiba Satellite Click W35Dt-AST2N01 is no different from the rest. It tries to provide the portability of a tablet with the functions of a laptop in one device with a rather low price. It uses an AMD A4 ULV processor, which is the main reason for its low price tag. With this processor, a fan is not needed, which results in a silent device. The downside of using ULV processor is the low performance, which does not meet the requirements of regular laptop users or gamers.

The Click’s 13.3-inch 1366x768 LED display delivers relatively clear and crisp images and neat viewing angles. The detachable keyboard, which alike Asus Andriod tablets provides extra battery life, distinguishes it from a tablet. The combined battery life gives users 8 hours of normal usage. The keyboard is not the best of its kind but it does the job and it also features a single USB 3.0 port on its right edge as well as a power port on its left edge. The Click certainly spots much more features typically seen in this price range. As a hybrid solution, it does not meet its purpose with low performance and weight and dimensions of an oversized-portable device.

At a quick glance, the Toshiba Satellite Click seems like an intriguing low-priced, attractive detachable best fit for basic tasks. For what it’s worth, the Click certainly sports aesthetics that are much more attractive than what we typically see in this price range, and we’d take the system’s mediocre keyboard and touchpad for text input over an on-screen keyboard any day.

With the $599 Satellite Click, Toshiba sought to create a low-cost Windows 8 hybrid for the masses. We like the bright 13-inch display, loud speakers and long battery life this device offers in laptop mode. Unfortunately, while the Click's AMD A4 processor runs cool, don't expect much more than netbook-like performance.

Toshiba's Satellite Click is a good-looking, well-built detachable at a bargain price. But its AMD processor struggles to perform everyday tasks, and both of our test units had battery glitches. Even without the battery woes, however, we reluctantly conclude that the Satellite Click is too slow and heavy for a thumbs up.

50% Toshiba Satellite Click 2

The Satellite Click 2 is a classic jack of all trades, master of none. You get a fairly bright 13-inch display, good battery life and clear audio for a fairly low price. But whether you use it as a supersize tablet or a 13-inch laptop, the Click 2 feels bulky. The uncomfortable keyboard and pile of bloatware are two other strikes against this 2-in-1.

Toshiba Satellite Click Mini (L9W-B-102) review – budget tablet that brings laptop-like experience
Source: Laptop Media English
The screen quality is also good and rarely matched at this price range. The budget IPS panel is harmless to your eyes, it has wide viewing angles, it’s bright enough and has a good color reproduction. Nevertheless, the whole visual experience is ruined due to the huge screen bezels. The 8.9-inch diagonal could have easily been 10-inch. So our final thoughts on the device are mainly positive and, to be honest, for €300 you get a bonus docking station with extra battery and physical keyboard – something you can rarely see in budget tablets.

Toshiba reviews

Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

AMD Radeon HD 8180: Integrated graphics card of the AMD A4-1200 APU ("Temash"). Based on the GCN architecture, offers 128 shader units and is clocked at 225 MHz.

Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail):

Integrated GPU for tablet and notebook Bay Trail SoCs. Based on the Ivy Bridge GPU with four Execution Units and support for DirectX 11.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

AMD A-Series:

A4-1200: Dual-core APU for ultraportables and tablets, codenamed Temash. Based on the Jaguar architecture. Integrates a Radeon HD 8180 graphics card.

Intel Pentium:

N3530: Soc with an integrated quad core Atom processor clocked at 2.2 - 2.6 GHz and an Intel HD Graphics GPU.

Intel Atom: The Intel Atom series is a 64-Bit (not every model supports 64bit) microprocessor for cheap and small notebooks (so called netbooks), MIDs, or UMPCs. The speciality of the new architecture is the "in order" execution (instead of the usual and faster "out of order" execution). Therefore, the transistor count of the Atom series is much lower and, thus, cheaper to produce. Furthermore, the power consumption is very low. The performance per Megahertz is therfore worse than the old Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz on par with a 1.6 GHz Atom).

Z3735F: SoC with an integrated quad-core Atom processor clocked up to 1.83 GHz, an Intel HD Graphics GPU and a single channel DDR3L-RS-1333 memory controller.

8.9: This is a very small format, which is used for UMPC, Netbooks or Subotebooks. There hardly exist any models with this display format. Working for a long time is uncomfortable. This tiny display is intended for outdoor usage.
The advantage is, that the mini-notebook can be small dimensioned and can be carried easily. Further the tiny display has the advantage, that it needs few energy, which improves the battery runtime and in consequence the mobility. The disadvantage is that the reading of texts is very exhausting for the eyes. High resolutions can hardly be used.

13.3: This is a common display format for subnotebooks. Netbooks, UMPC and some subnotebooks have tinier displays. Nevertheless, the majority of standard laptops has a higher format. The advantage of a small display is, that the subnotebook can be small dimensioned and can be carried easily. Further the small display needs few energy, which improves the battery runtime and in consequence the mobility. The disadvantage is that the reading of texts is a bit exhausting for the eyes, especially with high resolutions.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

0.47 kg:

This subnotebook is one of the most lightweight of all notebooks and can be carried very easily. There exist hardly any models in this extreme class of weight. 7-9 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.

2.2 kg:

These sub-notebooks weight less than the average of all notebooks, but represent a heavier class of weight among the sub-notebooks. 13 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.

48.33%: This average evaluation is exceptionally bad. There exist hardly any laptops, which are rated so negative.
