Toshiba Satellite C75-A-10P

The Toshiba Satellite C75-A-10P is truly a satellite of epic proportions. The massive 17 inch machine with a full size keyboard was definitely designed as a desktop replacement. For a laptop this size, it is surprisingly light at 2.7 kg. However, it is still not a machine ideal for toting around on a daily basis. The battery life is another pleasant surprise, managing to squeeze out almost 6 hours of light use. While that may not sound impressive, most machines of this size don't typically fare as well. On the outside, the design is plain and nondescript, with a plastics chassis. It is put together well though, despite feeling like a low end laptop. Flex and creaking are minimal, and the keyboard is a pleasure to use. Unfortunately, the touchpad is a little finicky in terms of responsiveness.

But on the inside, the Toshiba Satellite C75-A-10P performs more than decently, powered by its 2.5 GHz Core i3-3120M processor. Its HD+ screen is also a big surprise for this price range. Both the processor and screen put this device far ahead of comparable machines. Its biggest let down is Intel's HD Graphics 4000, which makes for only bearable gaming at medium or lower settings, but that is to be expected for its class. In almost every way, the Toshiba Satellite C75-A-10P is the best option for those in the market for a truly budget friendly desktop replacement.

67% Toshiba Satellite C75 review
Source: PC Pro English
As a do-it-all desktop replacement, the Satellite C75 is a solid all-rounder. It has weak points, but if you're looking for a desk-bound laptop with a good turn of speed for around £500, the Toshiba Satellite C75 is a viable candidate at a sensible price.

70% Toshiba Satellite C75 review: a good looking desktop replacement laptop with a Haswell processor
Source: PC Advisor English
The Satellite C75 isn't as sturdy as the Asus X75VC, and its keyboard isn't particularly good, but it makes up for these deficiencies in other areas. The Haswell processor helps the C75 deliver the best application benchmarks of any machine here, and its integrated graphics core enables casual gaming – even if the Asus has a slightly better integrated core. Battery life is better than the Asus, too, and both screens are comparable. If you need a desktop replacement without breaking the bank, the Toshiba has edged ahead of its rival.

Intel HD Graphics 4600:

Integrated processor graphics card found on a number of Haswell CPU models. Offers varying clock speeds depending on the CPU.

NVIDIA GeForce 710M: Entry level GPU of the 700M series based on the GT 620M.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

Intel Core i3:

3120M: Ivy-Bridge-based dual-core, 2.5 GHz core clock (no turbo), includes HD 4000 GPU

4000M:

Haswell-based dual-core processor clocked at 2.4 GHz with no Turbo Boost support. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.

Intel Core i5:

4200M: Haswell-based dual-core processor clocked at 2.5 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.1 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.

17.3: Meanwhile the 17 inch display size is a more frequently offered standard format for desktop-replacements. The DTR-laptops can't be carried easily, need much energy but on the other side texts can be read easily and high resolutions are no problem. DTR mainly are intended for stationary usage on desks, where the weight and the energy need are unimportant.

2.7 kg:

This notebook is lighter than the average of all notebooks. It is too heavy for sub-notebooks. 14 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.

2.8 kg:

This weight is average for notebooks. Therefore the numerous mass of laptops with 15 inch display fits in this class of weight.

68.5%: This rating is bad. Most notebooks are better rated. This is not a recommendation for purchase.
