Sound miracle. As a counterpart to its AMD Fusion NB550D sister-model, the NB520 charges ahead with a dual-core Atom N550. First-class subwoofer-sound remains on board. Can it manage to muster eight hour runtimes and tackle Intel GMA HD videos? Find out in this review.

The NB520-108 is a great little netbook, with a truly impressive battery life and surprisingly powerful speakers. The only quirk we found was the temperamental space bar.

The Toshiba NB520 is a standard netbook on the inside, except for a superb pair of speakers. On the outside a lovely keyboard makes for good user ergonomics and the colour scheme simply looks attractive. In a sea full of similar products, Toshiba has found good ways to make the NB520 stand out.

Toshiba's NB520 might sport the same basic internals, screen and connectivity as most budget netbooks, but its rugged, stylish design, comfortable ergonomics and excellent battery life - combined with speakers that put many laptops to shame – mean there's still plenty to like. If you can live with its limitations, it's one of the most attractive netbooks around.

The Toshiba NB520 is priced at Rs. 21,490 which is just about right for its performance and features. The speakers sound great and the performance is a lot better thanks to the extra RAM and let’s not forget the sleep utility feature that helps save power. The keyboard and the bezel are not the best but after some getting used to, you won’t really have a problem with this netbook.

While Toshiba's NB500-series is stylish across the board and the speakers on the higher-end models are certainly impressive, we can't help but think the NB550D's C50 CPU is poorly complemented by a sub-HD Ready screen and only 1GB of RAM (we hope a higher-specced model will be brought out soon). However, if its price remains below £300 it's likely to be a very strong contender, especially considering its premium feel and impressive battery life claims.

With strong performance, a rugged feel and a generally good keyboard, the T oshiba NB520-10P is a great choice for schools. Although slightly more expensive than its rivals, it feels built to last and doesn’t come with too many compromises.

Toshiba: Toshiba Corporation is a Japanese conglomerate or technology group. The company was established in 1939 and in 1978 Toshiba became the official company name. The company's products and services include power, industrial and social infrastructure systems, elevators and escalators, electronic components, semiconductors, hard drives, printers, batteries, lighting, logistics and information technology. Toshiba was one of the largest manufacturers of personal computers, consumer electronics, home appliances and medical equipment.
These graphics cards are not suited for Windows 3D games. Office and Internet surfing however is possible.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150: Integrated (shared memory) graphics card in the intel Atom N4xx CPUs. Minimally faster than an old GMA 950 and therefore not suited for 3D games or HD videos (only MPEG2 acceleration).
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3650: Integrated processor graphics card (e.g. in the Atom N2800) without dedicated memory. Most likely based on a PowerVR design similar to the GMA 500 but with higher clock rates.

Intel Atom: The Intel Atom series is a 64-Bit (not every model supports 64bit) microprocessor for cheap and small notebooks (so called netbooks), MIDs, or UMPCs. The speciality of the new architecture is the "in order" execution (instead of the usual and faster "out of order" execution). Therefore, the transistor count of the Atom series is much lower and, thus, cheaper to produce. Furthermore, the power consumption is very low. The performance per Megahertz is therfore worse than the old Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz on par with a 1.6 GHz Atom).
N550: Dual core Atom with a TDP of only 8.5 Watt. Because of the slow clock speed of 1.5 GHz it may be sometimes even slower than a N465 Atom CPU.
N570: Dual core Atom processor with a slightly higher clock rate than the Atom N550 and therefore still slower than the CULV processors.
N2600: Dual core Atom CPU with an integrated SGX545 PowerVR graphics card and a video decoder.

77.8%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
