Timex, along with Dimepiece founder Brynn Wallner and vintage watch curator Alan Bedwell of Foundwell, has reintroduced a redesigned version of its 1995 Intrepid sailing watch. The new version is called the Timex Intrepid x Dimepiece Edition, and it debuts today, brings a fresh, slightly more wearable design to a piece revered by John F. Kennedy Jr.
The original 1995 Intrepid featured a large, 46 mm case, a slide‑rule bezel for nautical calculations, and Indiglo illumination, which rendered it a practical watch for water sports and sailing. As mentioned earlier, it was also worn by JFK Jr., which gave it sort of a cult following.
What’s changed:
- The new edition scales down to a 36 mm stainless-steel case, making it more easily wearable on various wrist sizes.
- The dial swaps the original bright white for vintage cream, and black markers for clear contrast.
- The Indiglo button is now Timex purple, matching the second hand and hour markers.
- A co‑branded caseback features both Timex and Dimepiece logos.
The crown placement at 4 o’clock, the rotating bezel, 100 m water resistance, quartz analog movement, synthetic rubber strap, and mineral crystal are still unchanged.
Wallner discovered the original Intrepid in a photo of JFK Jr., which prompted her and Bedwell to approach Timex with the collaboration idea. The initial 46 mm reissue sold out very fast. Wallner says the redesign is a sign of generational shift in watch design - away from small, feminized styles in pastel or jewels, toward functional, gender‑neutral pieces.
The Timex Intrepid x Dimepiece Edition is priced at $239 and is available now through Timex, Dimepiece, Todd Snyder, and other partners.
