Sony Vaio SR Notebook
Source: Geek.com
The bottom line is that the Sony SR series is a good option for a 13.3-inch notebook, but not the clear choice in its price category. Assuming a price of about $1400, almost every major manufacturer has something on par with this model as 13.3 inches is a now a very popular size and Sony, as usual, comes in on the expensive end of the spectrum. This is a good looking notebook, with a competitive component list and a cool keyboard, as well as some features which trickled down from Sony’s top shelf products but it fails to truly distinguish itself from the likes of the Dell XPS M1330 or HP Pavilion dv3500t, both of which are substantially cheaper than the Sony. Plus now that the new MacBook has arrived, Sony is no longer the leader in terms of aesthetics either.

We knew the SR19 would be challenging for a place on our A List the moment we set eyes on it. This laptop may have a price of around £800 exc VAT, but the quality of its design and the number of genuinely useful extras it packs in make it appear like a much more expensive machine. Its chief benefit, though, is portability.
A stunning 1.9kg laptop that offers six hours of battery life, but it's the whole bundle - superb design, extra software and a two-year warranty - that lifts it above the rest.

For all its lack of connections, the Sony VAIO VGN-SR19VN is an impressive business notebook. It takes the latest Centrino 2 technology and uses it to great effect. If you're looking for a stylish and powerful business tool, this makes more than just a statement.

Laptop manufacturers are queuing up to release products featuring Intel's Centrino 2 platform, with Sony at the front of the line. The VAIO VGN-SR19VN is one of the first Centrino 2-based laptops to hit the shops.
It's a compact and lightweight machine, boasting a 13.3-inch screen, dedicated GPU and a weight of 1.9kg. As with other Centrino 2 laptops, you'll find a 45nm Intel Core 2 Duo processor, a Mobile Intel 45 Express chipset and an 802.11n Wi-Fi adapter included as standard.

Comment
Sony: Sony is a notebook manufacturer of medium size according international market shares. There exist a lot of reviews about Sony notebooks. The total ratings and price/value ratings are good above average.
Lower end of Graphics Cards for users who want to play games. New games should run on these cards, but only with decreased details and mediocre resolution.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD: Onboard (shared Memory) GPU built in the GM45 chipset (Montevina). Because of two more shaders and a higher core clock, much faster than the old GMA X3100. Still not advisable for gamers (DirectX 10 games not playable or only with very low settings). The integrated video processor is able to help decode HD videos (AVC/VC-2/MPEG2) , e.g., for a fluent Blu-Ray playback with slow CPUs.
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470: Faster clocked HD 3450 and successor of the HD 2400 XT but with DirectX 10.1 and due to the new 55nm process, higher clockspeeds. Avivo HD video functions allow the decoding of HD videos.

Intel Core 2 Duo: This is the Core Duo and Core Solo successor with a longer pipeline and 5-20% more speed without more power consumption. As an addition to the Core Duo design there exists a fourth decoder, an amplified SSE-unit and an additional arithmetical logical unit (ALU).
The Core 2 Duo for laptops is identical to the desktop Core 2 Duo processors but the notebook-processors work with lower voltages (0.95 to 1188 Volt) and a lower Frontside bus clock (1066 vs 667 MHz). The performance of equally clocked notebooks is 20-25% lower than Desktop PCs because of the lower Frontside bus clock and the slower hard disks.
13.3: This is a frequent and the biggest display format for sub-notebooks.
The advantage is, that the subnotebook can be small dimensioned and can be carried easily. Further the tiny display has the advantage, that it needs few current, which improves the battery runtime and in consequence the mobility. The disadvantage is that the reading of texts is very exhausting vor the eyes. High resolutions can hardly be used.
>> To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
1.9 kg:
These sub-notebooks weight less than the average of all notebooks, but represent a heavier class of weight among the sub-notebooks. 12 inch displays are normal for this class of weight.
1.9 kg:
83.83%: This rating is to be considered as average, because the amount of notebooks with better ratings is about equal like the amount with worse ratings.
