SK Hynix launches new Gold S31 SuperCore series of inexpensive consumer SATA III SSDs
SK Hynix is no stranger to SSDs or RAM. Its components are frequently found on the laptops we review from inexpensive models all the way up to enthusiast systems. Today, the South Korean company has announced a new affordable 2.5-inch SATA III SSD called the Gold S31 bound for North America.
According to the manufacturer, the Gold S31 will offer sequential read and write speeds of up to 560 MB/s and 525 MB/s, respectively, which are close to the transfer rate limits of the SATA III interface.
SK Hynix says its new SSD will launch exclusively on Amazon U.S. in 250 GB, 500 GB, and 1 TB capacities later this year with a TBD starting price and a base warranty of 5 years. The Gold S31 series will eventually make its way to Europe as an M.2 PCIe form factor by 2020.

Seoul, August 15, 2019 – SK hynix Inc. (or ‘the Company,’ www.skhynix.com)
announced today the launch of its “Gold S31” solid-state drive (SSD). Gold S31 (SATA III
– first generation) is the first of the Company’s new SuperCore series of consumer SSDs,
an internal drive lineup based on SK hynix’s core technology.
With its speed and reliability, SK hynix’s Gold S31 will be a perfect choice for all PC
users, particularly for gamers, designers, and content creators. Gold S31 pushes the limits
on high-performance SSDs, providing users the next level of speed with sequential read
speeds up to 560MB/s, as well as superior quality, reliability, and five-year warranty.
The 2.5-inch drive supports the SATA III interface based on 3D NAND Flash technology,
and is now available in 1TB, 500GB and 250GB capacities on Amazon U.S.
All key components in Gold S31, from NAND Flash and built-in controller to DRAM and
firmware, were designed and produced by SK hynix. The in-house components are built
for robust performance and reliability.
Gold S31 will be offered exclusively on Amazon U.S. this year, but is expected to expand
to other North American and European markets starting next year, when a PCIe version of
the SSD can also be expected.
“SK hynix has been supplying global PC OEMs with high-quality, competitive SSDs since
2013, leveraging its proven quality and reliability as the world’s leading memory
provider,” said Kook Won, Head of Global Sales & Marketing Strategy of SK hynix. “The
