The Gold S31 utilizes all in-house components from its built-in DRAM, firmware, and NAND Flash to be a "full" SK Hynix product. Although exclusive to the U.S. for now, additional M.2 PCIe models are expected to arrive for both North America and Europe sometime next year.

SK Hynix is no stranger to SSDs or RAM. Its components are frequently found on the laptops we review from inexpensive models all the way up to enthusiast systems. Today, the South Korean company has announced a new affordable 2.5-inch SATA III SSD called the Gold S31 bound for North America.

According to the manufacturer, the Gold S31 will offer sequential read and write speeds of up to 560 MB/s and 525 MB/s, respectively, which are close to the transfer rate limits of the SATA III interface.

SK Hynix says its new SSD will launch exclusively on Amazon U.S. in 250 GB, 500 GB, and 1 TB capacities later this year with a TBD starting price and a base warranty of 5 years. The Gold S31 series will eventually make its way to Europe as an M.2 PCIe form factor by 2020.
