If the world of Minecraft were a disk, the Far Lands would mark its outer rim – the edge of the game’s universe. Reaching it was never something the developers intended, but one YouTuber managed to do it anyway, after more than 14 years and a journey of over 12 million blocks.

On October 4, 2025, US YouTuber and streamer KurtJMac finally reached his long-awaited destination: Minecraft’s legendary Far Lands. His journey began in March 2011 with the launch of the Far Lands or Bust project, and after more than 14 years of continuous travel, he made it. The final leg of the adventure was uploaded to YouTube on October 5, 2025. “We have done it – in the most extreme way imaginable,” the video description reads.

Over the course of more than 14 years and 800 episodes, KurtJMac walked over 12 million blocks in Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 – always heading west toward a place that technically shouldn’t exist. The Far Lands are the result of a terrain generation bug in early versions of the game – a surreal, broken landscape where the algorithm begins to fail. They appear around 12,550,821 blocks from spawn, and that’s exactly where KurtJMac placed a sign at the end of his journey, reading: “This is where Farlanders first entered the Far Lands! October 4, 2025.”

KurtJMac’s journey had already earned him a Guinness World Record for the “longest journey in Minecraft.” Now, by finally reaching the Far Lands, he has set a powerful and symbolic milestone – one that cements his place in internet history. Yet even after achieving his goal, the series isn’t over. KurtJMac plans to continue exploring the Far Lands firsthand – a place that remained a myth for more than a decade. For millions of Minecraft fans around the world, this moment marks both the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter in one of gaming’s most extraordinary long-term projects.

More than just gaming

KurtJMac’s journey was about more than just reaching a destination in a game. Since 2011, he has used Far Lands or Bust as a platform for charity streams and thoughtful conversations about science, society and personal experiences. Over the years, he has raised more than $500,000 for organizations including Child’s Play, Direct Relief, PAWS and the Equal Justice Initiative.

Community shows emotion

The final video has struck an emotional chord with viewers, many of whom have followed the journey since it began in 2011. In the comments, fans share personal memories and reflect on the years they’ve spent together. Phrases like “a piece of video game history,” “incredible dedication” and “a moment that will outlast the internet” capture the profound impact of KurtJMac’s achievement.

YouTuber AntVenom captures the mood perfectly: “Your persistence has been absolutely next level from 2011 through now [...] There are just no words to describe it having played out as cinematically as it did.” Another fan adds: “This goes beyond Minecraft. It’s video game and internet history – it’s even regular history.”
