Xiaomi’s fairytale entry into the world of electric cars continues with yet another strong performance in May 2025. The phone-maker-turned-automaker took to Weibo to announce it delivered over 28,000 units in the just-ended month.
Xiaomi did not provide exact numbers, but the figure was similar to that of April. However, May marked the eighth consecutive month that EV deliveries exceeded 20,000.
Fans of the company will be delighted to know that preparation for the YU7 mass production is ongoing, as noted by Xiaomi in another official post. Xiaomi introduced the electric SUV in May, with an official launch expected in July.
Xiaomi’s only available model is the SU7, which it started offering in 2024 in the Standard, Pro, and Max trims. It released the RMB 529,900 ($73,550) SU7 Ultra in February 2025, with deliveries beginning in March.
May was quite a busy month for Xiaomi. It opened 29 new electric car showrooms in China, bringing the total to 298 spread over 82 cities. Customers can now access support services in 153 centers in 88 cities. Xiaomi is also participating in the 2025 Shenzhen auto show, running from May 31 to June 8. Attendees will be able to view its EVs closely, including the YU7 SUV.
Meanwhile, competition in the Chinese EV market is heating up. Apart from the big names such as Tesla and BYD, Xiaomi is up against many newer brands that are also growing sales. Leapmotor delivered 45,067 units in May, up almost 150 percent year-on-year. Li Auto also had a good month, with 40,856 deliveries. Xpeng also announced 33,525 deliveries, the seventh consecutive month it crossed the 30,000 mark.
