OnePlus 3 reveal purportedly coming April 7th
The direct successor to the OnePlus 2 will supposedly be revealed on April 7th according to sources close to Gizmo China. To back its claim, a mysterious new entry in the AnTuTu database claims to be an unannounced OnePlus device carrying a 5.5-inch 1080p display with the quad-core Snapdragon 820 SoC and integrated Adreno 530 GPU. Other specifications include 4 GB RAM, 32 GB eMMC, and 16 MP and 8 MP rear and front cameras, respectively. The model should ship with the company's signature OxygenOS on top of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
Whether or not the leaked specifications turn out to be true will have to wait until April or even later. The OnePlus 2 was heralded as a "flagship killer", but the smartphone was ultimately all hype as it was missing a number of high-end features that made it a standard mainstream offering. In our review of the device, we commended its massive amount of system RAM and good voice quality, but took points away for its non-expandable memory and other cut corners.
It also remains to be seen if OnePlus will implement its controversial Invite System for its future products. The company eventually lifted the system from OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X orders mere months after their respective launches.
