Nothing has revealed it will be entering into a new product category, and the news shouldn't be much of a surprise based on an earlier announcement. Thanks to a video posted on its YouTube channel, Nothing has announced it will be making its very first pair of over-ear headphones.
The announcement comes a few days after revealing it had entered into a partnership with KEF, a British audio company. In that announcement, it was revealed that both companies will combine their expertise for new and existing product categories. In the almost 4-minute video uploaded on YouTube, Nothing's design team sheds light on the upcoming headphones.
First, the design leads revealed their dislike for current over-ear headphones on the market, at least from a design perspective. Based on this, we can expect Nothing's first headphones to have a distinct look like its other products. Another design feature Nothing's headphones will have is distinguishable buttons, thus eliminating the problem of accidentally pressing the wrong button.
Nothing also mentioned the high price of current headphones, even citing the $549 AirPods Max (curr. available on Amazon for $479.99) as an example. The London-based tech company doesn't want their headphones to fall on either the cheap or premium end of the spectrum but to make the best product that won't be a downgrade for anyone coming from a pair of premium headphones that costs significantly more.
Nothing is also banking on its experience making earbuds which have received lots of positive reviews. It believes this expertise in making earbuds will help it succeed in the headphones category.
The Nothing over-ear headphones doesn't have a name yet, or rather, it wasn't revealed but Nothing did reveal that it will launch this summer which means we can expect it to arrive in June at the earliest.
