No more a Google Pixel exclusive: Android 12's Material You dynamic theming is finally making its way to non-Pixel phones
Dynamic color theming is one of the standout features of the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. By using Google’s "Monet" color engine, the UI on the Pixel phones changes everything from icon colors to system-wide accent colors in accordance with the wallpaper. But not everybody has experienced the dynamic color theming in action since the feature has been a Pixel 6 exclusive. This is about to change as Material You dynamic color theming is coming to non-Pixel phones with Android 12.
Google has now announced that certain smartphones will be getting the formerly Pixel-exclusive dynamic theming. Samsung’s newly announced Galaxy S22, the OnePlus 9 Pro, and Xiaomi Mi 11 are among the smartphones getting the dynamically changing color themes.
According to Android Police, Google has reportedly mandated that smartphones makers who want to update their phones with Android 12 after March 14 will have to pack some sort of dynamic theming if they want to utilize Google Mobile Services. The condition also applies to new phones launching with Android 12.
