A preliminary remark: Filtering tap water is not usually necessary in most developed countries in order to reduce acute health risks, but it can still be contaminated with potentially harmful chemicals. A prominent example of this is PFAS ("forever chemicals"), which have become near-ubiquitous; not only is it found in most, if not all, sources of drinking water, but also in human blood. For this reason, a number of countries are slowly implenting mechanisms for the detection and regulation of PFAS in municpal drinking water. Germany, for example, is expected to implement a new limit for the four most problematic PFAS substances from January 2028.
That said, Xiaomi is launching another water filtration system globally, although details on a release date or price are still pending. The Mijia Smart Water Purifier N800G does not use a tank, but is integrated directly into the drinking water pipe and comes with a corresponding faucet/tap. Up to 2 liters can be filtered per minute, which should meet a larger demand for filtered water. One filter unit is said to be able to filter up to 4,000 liters. It features a six-stage filtration process, using reverse osmosis. However, there is no information of the effectiveness of PFAS removal. The faucet features an LED to indicate when the filter needs changing, and the Xiaomi Home app can be used to display the TDS value, for example.
