Microsoft and Mercedes-Benz are deepening their partnership with plans to transform cars into mobile workspaces that go beyond traditional office settings. Leading the way is the new Mercedes CLA, which will become the first vehicle to feature comprehensive integration of Microsoft productivity apps. This feature set will subsequently roll out to additional models.

Mercedes-Benz is strengthening its collaboration with Microsoft to bring new digital capabilities to its vehicles. The aim is to deliver an attractive overall package designed with businesses in mind. The next-gen MB.OS operating system marks another step towards turning Mercedes cars into mobile workspaces. This could become a compelling reason for employees, particularly those eligible for company cars, to choose a Mercedes vehicle in future.

At the forefront is the new Mercedes-Benz CLA, which will launch with the fourth-gen MBUX infotainment system. This will be the first Mercedes model to feature expanded Microsoft integration specifically tailored to professional users.

A key component of this deepened integration is the updated Teams app. Users will be able to participate in video conferences whilst driving, taking advantage of the in-car camera. Mercedes affirms that this functionality complies with relevant legal requirements. Once the camera is enabled, any shared content and presentations will be automatically hidden from the driver to minimise distraction. The camera can also be manually disabled at any time to ensure maximum control over privacy.

The updated Teams app also introduces a new dashboard that lets users view upcoming appointments directly inside their vehicle. It enables quicker access to contacts, and the chat function has been optimised for use on the go. Built-in voice control facilitates text input, and users can join meetings straight from the calendar without the need for additional devices.

Another milestone is the integration of Microsoft Intune into MB.OS. This cloud-based solution allows users to securely sign in with their business accounts and seamlessly switch between work and personal applications. Businesses benefit from a clear separation between private and business data, along with simplified access rights management. IT administrators can centrally define and manage security policies for vehicles – similar to smartphones or laptops. This integration supports apps like Notes and Calendar and will be available in Europe and the US.

AI has become an integral component

Mercedes-Benz is also planning to introduce an API for Microsoft 365 Copilot to bring certain features of the generative AI into vehicles. Using voice commands, drivers will be able to summarise emails, retrieve customer information, or prepare for upcoming meetings. This integration is expected to be the first of its kind in a production vehicle. Mercedes promises it will significantly enhance productivity for users who are frequently on the move.

With these innovations, Mercedes-Benz aims to evolve its cars into fully equipped workspaces, serving as an extension of commercial and home offices. Whether this plan will succeed remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: These features are undoubtedly designed for discerning business clients who value convenience, connectivity and security.

Through our industry-leading collaboration with Microsoft, we are making it even easier for our customers to stay productive while on the move. By integrating the latest Microsoft workspace tools, such as Microsoft Teams, directly into our new operating system, MB.OS, we’ve created an intuitive and safe user experience that boosts efficiency and reduces distractions at the same time." says Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Group
