MediaTek has taken the wraps off a new processor under its Helio G series which is targeted at 4G phones and tablets. The new Helio G200 arrives as the top model, sitting above the Helio G100 that was announced in August 2024. However, only little sets the Helio G200 apart from the Helio G100.
The Helio G200 is an octa-core processor built on the same TSMC 6nm node as the Helio G100. It has two Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz with a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU clocked at 1.1GHz. Just like the Helio G100, the new processor supports LPDDR4X memory with a max frequency of 4266 Mbps and UFS 2.2 storage. It also has support for displays with a max resolution of 2520 x 1080 and a 120Hz refresh rate.
The maximum camera resolution supported is also not different from that of the Helio G100 which is a single 200MP camera or dual 16MP sensors. However, a new addition is the support for 12-bit DCG (dual conversion gain) that allows for higher-quality HDR video capture. MediaTek also claims that it has collaborated with camera application developers to reduce power consumption by up to 20%.
Another new feature the Helio G200 brings is the new 4G DC SAR technology that 'enhances the experience of popular social and messaging apps' in areas with poor cellular signals. MediaTek says the new technology reduces latency by up to 30% and extends connectivity range by up to 83%.
Save for these two new features, the rest of the Helio G200's specifications are the same as that of the Helio G100. MediaTek didn't say when devices powered by the new processor will hit store shelves.
